1. A batter wearing a batting helmet sets up in her batting position facing the backstop or screen, next to a batting tee, set up around waist-high.

2. A coach places a ball on the tee and steps a safe distance away.

3. The batter executes the drill with the bottom hand only and then top hand only using a Wiffle bat and ball, and finally with both hands using a regulation bat and softball.

4. On the coach’s cue, the batter strides with proper backside rotation, executes a proper swing, and hits the Wiffle ball (if one hand) or softball (if two hands) off the tee into the backstop or screen.

5. When executing the drill with the bottom hand only, her hand and wrist are relaxed at the start to facilitate clean contact with the ball; as the swing starts, the grip on the bat will naturally tighten as the bat travels into the contact zone.

6. When executing the drill with the top hand only, make sure the palm of her hand is facing the ball on the tee (not facing up).

7. After the one-hand repetitions, repeat the drill with both hands using regulation equipment, combining the bottom and top hand techniques.
